When enthusiasm for technology meets real SHF action
Shinsuke, DO9IS, and Hans Peter, DG2MAW, put the ICOM IC-905 to the test—and not just anywhere, but in freezing temperatures with impressive views in the Bavarian mountains. On 10 GHz and 24 GHz, they showed what the Allmode transceiver is really capable of. In our latest field report, you can read about how the device performed under real outdoor conditions, the challenges of operating at these high frequencies, and why even experienced radio amateurs are still amazed by 24 GHz.

Microwave action on the second weekend in June
From June 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. UTC until June 8, at 1:59 p.m. UTC, the DARC's big SHF contest will be underway, operating on all bands from 1.3 GHz up to over 300 GHz. Whether you are a single operator, multi-op, or training station with a DN call sign, everyone can participate!

Operating modes are SSB, CW, and FM – at the highest frequencies also AM. One connection per band is allowed, without repeaters or EME. Points are awarded as usual per kilometer, and logs are submitted in EDI format (REG1TEST). The deadline for submitting logs is June 15 at 11:59 p.m. UTC via the DARC Contest Hub.

New this year: the trainee class for training call signs and /T stations – perfect for gaining initial experience in the microwave range. All valid connections also count towards the VHF contest trophy and the club championships.
