New Antenna Project in Active Retirement The WiMo EFHW Put to the Test

The end-fed half-wave antenna (EFHW) is one of the most popular designs in amateur radio. It is not only ideal for situations with limited space, but also stands out for its convenient end-fed connection, making it equally attractive for both fixed home installations and portable use. But how does the antenna perform when put under the microscope in the lab and in the field?

Dr.-Ing. Holger Altmaier, DL5HA, has extensively tested the WiMo EFHW for the 80m to 10m bands at his second QTH and summarized his experiences in a critical report.

In addition to a clear introduction to the theoretical principles and the functioning of the 1:49 UnUn, the experienced ham radio operator focuses primarily on the actual setup and the concrete measurement results. In doing so, he encountered a very special technical challenge regarding counterweight and skin effects.
For a limited time only and at an unbeatable price – WiMo 1:49 EFHW antenna

WiMo EFHW antennas are the ideal choice not only for permanent installation in your home garden, but also for flexible use at your next Field Day or for SOTA and POTA activations. Take advantage of this opportunity now and get this shortwave classic for the 80m to 10m bands at the current special price. Since this is a limited-time offer featuring both the extremely lightweight 100-watt model and the more robust 300-watt version, we recommend acting quickly while supplies last.

These fully pre-assembled and ready-to-use end-fed antennas impress with their enormous versatility. At the heart of each is a broadband 1:49 impedance transformer in a weatherproof housing with an integrated condensation drain, which precisely matches the high-impedance feed point to standard 50-ohm systems. High-quality components made of stainless steel and UV-resistant copper strand guarantee maximum durability in outdoor use in any weather, allowing the antennas to be strung with complete flexibility as a sloper, inverted-L, or in a classic horizontal configuration between a house, mast, or trees.

Once they’re gone, they’re gone—so act fast and choose the right power class for your next outdoor antenna project before the promotional stock runs out!

Coaxial cables hanging from the sky right in the middle of the garden pose a serious threat to domestic harmony: Either my wife will mistake the cable for a clothesline as she walks by, or I’ll be reported to the police for attempted strangulation of my mother-in-law the next time there’s a storm! 😉

New at WiMo: Foldingantennas 5-Band Portable Hexbeam

The 5-band folding beam from Foldingantennas is an extremely compact shortwave directional antenna based on the Hexbeam principle (G3TXQ), designed specifically for quick, tool-free portable operation. Thanks to a unique folding mechanism, all elements remain permanently mounted, allowing the system to be folded down to a transport size of just 1.15 m in a matter of minutes. Weighing approximately 6 kg and with a small swing radius of 3.20 m, it is the perfect choice for field days, vacation QTHs, and DXpeditions.

Technically, the antenna covers the 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10 m bands, offers a broadband SWR, and withstands transmit power up to 1500 W. With a gain of about 5 dBi and a front-to-back ratio of over 20 dB, it provides noticeable interference suppression and the ability to cut through the pile-up. The robust construction made of UV-stable fiberglass, aluminum, and stainless steel is optimized for repeated setup and takedown and is easily fed via a PL connector.
